Residents got off safely in an early morning fire in West Kelowna.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 4:30 a.m. and found a full garage fire on the 900 block of Lloyd Jones Drive.

“The crews who responded did a great job quickly putting down a fully involved freestanding garage fire, including two vehicles, to keep it from entering the nearby residence,” said Chad Gartrell, assistant chief of fire, West Kelowna Fire Rescue .

“The residents were able to get out safely and seek shelter with a neighbor nearby while the crews carried out fire extinguishing work on site.”

Investigators will return after sunrise to determine the cause of the fire. Due to the extent of the damage, a preliminary investigation found the cause to be undetermined but not suspect.

Four engines responded to the fire. RCMP, paramedic, Fortis gas and hydro crews were on site.
