West Kelowna Worker Assumes Vernon Place – Summerland Assessment

New faces occupy some key positions in the city.

Two new managers have been hired to head the economic development and tourism department.

John Perrott will be the new manager for economic development and tourism as of May 31st.

The position was previously held by Kevin Poole, who will become the director of community security, land and administration until the end of the month.

Perrott was West Kelowna’s economic development and tourism manager since 2010. He was previously the Director of Marketing and General Manager of the Downtown Kelowna Association.

He was also a director and vice president of the Business Improvement Area Association of BC and has been an active member of the Board of Directors of the BC Economic Development Association since 2016. In 2003, he graduated from Okanagan College with a Bachelor of Business Administration, and in 2019 he completed the Master of Management program at the University of British Columbia.

In addition, Torrie Silverthorn is the new tourism manager with immediate effect.

She has been Vernon’s Tourism Coordinator since 2018.

Previously, Silverthorn worked in the marketing department for the Predator Ridge Resort and the Turtle Mountain Communities and ran her own marketing company, Tor Media.

Her marketing firm provided marketing and communications services to many local organizations, including the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Vernon Association. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Saskatchewan and an extensive secondary education in marketing.

“Both portfolios provide vital services to market, celebrate, and grow our local and regional economies, and I am confident they will serve our community well,” said Will Pearce, Vernon’s chief administrative officer.
