New roundabout is coming

The city of West Kelowna will begin construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Gellatly and Carrington Roads in early April.

The city has awarded Double T Dirtworx a $ 1.33 million contract to build the roundabout, perform minor storm improvements at Smith Creek, and a three-meter multi-purpose paved path from Witt and Boucherie Roads. This creates a connection from the Westbank Center to the waterfront.

This price was below the estimated budget of $ 2.5 million, with 80 percent covered by development costs.

This decision is made after an independent review of current and future traffic needs for the intersection – including all vehicle types and alternative modes of transport.

The construction work is expected to be completed in September.

The intersection of Gellatly and Carrington Roads is closed from 7am to 6pm on weekdays. It is open to the public in the evenings and on weekends. The detours will be set up in mid-April for about 10 weeks.

The city of West Kelowna will present a traffic management plan in the coming days.
