The City of West Kelowna is asking for feedback on a concept for a new skate park in Memorial Park.

Residents can take part in a virtual open house until April 18 to learn more about the project and to express their opinion.

The new concept includes a shallower bowl depth for people with disabilities as well as an improvement in functionality and use by beginners, advanced and advanced users by adding rails and strips.

Improved entrances and seating areas are planned as well as a flexible space for skateboard overflow, recreation and cultural programs such as yoga, dancing in the park, street hockey and other services.

“Over the past few months, the city has been working closely with the skatepark community group and receiving early feedback on possible improvements that they would like to see to improve the existing design,” the community said in a press release.

The city has pledged to keep the existing park open to users until the new skate park opens as expected this summer. The existing park will be removed to make way for the new town hall.
