An Okanagan man faces multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a West Kelowna store last week and escaping in a stolen vehicle.

According to the West Kelowna RCMP, officers were called to the 2600 block of Compass Court at 6:30 a.m. on April 30

There, police officers found that a single male suspect broke a window of the store and stole more than $ 7,000 worth of goods before escaping to a GMC Yukon.

“The investigation resulted in the arrest of a man several kilometers away and the recovery of a GMC Yukon that had been reported stolen a few days earlier,” police said in a press release, adding that officials had also recovered some of the stolen goods.

According to the RCMP, charges were approved against Gary Engedahl, 49, from West Kelowna, who was arrested and has since been released from custody.

Online court research reveals that Engedahl is charged with burglary and intrusion, possession of stolen property under $ 5,000, and possession of break-in instruments.

His next appearance in court is July 3rd in Kelowna. On the same day, Engedahl is also charged with driving bans and ID documents from November 18.
