A fire in a West Kelowna home that was reportedly started by a candle in a bathroom was quickly put out by firefighters last night.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) responded to the structural fire in Block 3100 of Vineyard View Way shortly after 10 p.m.
Before the fire brigade arrived, the residents of the house had already been evacuated.
The crews discovered a fire in the basement and quickly put it down to prevent it from spreading to the first floor.
“Investigators were on the spot and found the cause to be accidental,” said Chad Gartrell, assistant chief of fire for West Kelowna Fire Rescue.
Four engines, two safety officers and a commander, and RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, gas, hydro and City of West Kelowna personnel responded.
“WKFR would like to remind residents not to use candles in bedrooms, bathrooms and sleeping areas. WKFR also wants to remind residents to put out candles when they leave a room, home, or go to bed, ”explained Gartrell.
