Eight months after the COVID-19 pandemic, and with many people struggling financially, a company in West Kelowna kicks in to help those in need.
Marlon Fagan, owner of EnviroMetal Towing and Scrap Car Removal, said he just wanted to remind his neighbors that help is still available.
Aside from that, he said he wanted to give back to the community that has helped him and his business grow. Every year, EnviroMetal hands out Christmas baskets so giving back is nothing new to Fagan, but he said he knows this year more families may have financial problems.
He is committed to safely filling strangers’ refrigerators.
So he asked his neighbors if they needed help. Even if they didn’t need anything, he asked them to forward the message to let others know that he was ready to help.
“We have already had five families ask for help. It’s so hard to ask for help, but it shows you how people struggle, ”he said.
“Everyone is in need. There are so many people out of work and I just want to give something back to the community, especially the people who need it right now. No child or parent should go to bed hungry. “
He said he has already shopped for the five families and, with the help of his wife and children, they are disinfecting the items and the bags they will put the groceries in.
After that, they will drop the bags on the family’s doorstep to minimize COVID-19 exposure.

Fagan added that he had also received a lot of messages from other community members asking how they can help, which he said was a nice surprise.
“It’s just a pay-it-forward system. I’ve walked the driveway so many times and I don’t even know who bought me a coffee so I do the same. What comes around goes around and I just think that if everyone tried a little it would change the whole community right now, ”he said.
Fagan knows he can’t help the community on his own, so he asks for food donations.
If you would like to donate food to be distributed in the community, you can contact Fagan and his team at envirometal@hotmail.ca or send a message through the Facebook page.
