Return of water restrictions

When to turn on sprinklers this summer depends on your address in parts of the Central Okanagan county.
From June 16 through September 15 each year, Level 2 water restrictions apply to the Star Place, Falcon Ridge, Killiney Beach, Sunset Ranch, Upper Fintry-Shalal Road-Valley of the Sun, and Westshore water systems. Residents within the parish boundaries have their own different rules.
“Level 2 means that outdoor watering for customers of these systems is limited to two days per week. Those with even addresses are allowed to water outdoors on Saturday and Tuesday, while those with odd addresses are only allowed to water outdoors on Sunday and Wednesday, “said communications officer Bruce Smith.
He notes, titled Severe Drought by Agriculture Canada, that if you don’t need to water your gardens, you may want to skip your allotted days. “By complying with outdoor irrigation restrictions, residents will help ensure that system reservoirs are replenished and that there is adequate water supply for all.”
The RDCO statutes also set the hours for automated and manual outdoor irrigation. Customers with automatic sprinklers should only water between midnight and 6 a.m. on their designated day, while customers with manual outdoor watering should limit their watering to between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and midnight on their respective watering days.
The district maintains and operates six municipal water systems that serve just over 1,000 properties in the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West election areas.
