COVID test crunch

You may have to wait a day or two to get a COVID-19 test in the Kelowna area.

A reader contacted Castanet on Wednesday afternoon to say he hadn’t received a booking until Friday afternoon.

Interior Health said the demand for testing in the Central Okanagan has increased and people should still be able to book an appointment within a day or two.

IH says it will continue to monitor the availability of appointments and add more as needed.

There are two test locations: one in Kelowna and one in West Kelowna. People can book online or by calling 1-877-740-7747 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.

IH ran a whopping 1,986 tests on Tuesday, which appears to be the most since the pandemic began. Despite the high demand, the lead time to achieve results was only 18.5 hours. This is an improvement over last week when it took an average of more than 24 hours to get results.

If you suspect you have COVID-19, it is recommended that you self-isolate until you are tested and remain isolated until your results are in. Use the online self-assessment tool to determine if you should get tested.
