North Okanagan students are given a longer spring break.

The provincial government announced on Tuesday March 17th that the K-12 classes will be suspended until further notice.

“We will return to normal school life later,” said Education Secretary Rob Fleming.

According to Fleming, every student receives a final grade. In addition, the final exams are postponed and the graduates enforced.

The Vernon School District has put in place a Pandemic Response Plan in response to COVID-19.

“The district is planning a series of responses that are tailored to the possible continuum of severity of the outbreak,” the plan said. “Schools can be closed under the supervision of the

Ministry of Education and Provincial Health Officer. The school district is working on the following plan, highlighting the most important aspect – prevention. “

Online learning is considered as the entire BC curriculum is online.

In the meantime, childcare will not be stopped.

“Healthcare providers and other critical personnel need access to childcare,” said Premier John Horgan. “At this point, childcare will continue to be available. Parents should take comfort in this.”

While this is an evolving situation, Horgan adds that there may be options.

“The schools are not boarded up, which means these buildings are available,” he said, urging, “Families should be ready and try to make plans for changes immediately.”

All sports-related activities were also suspended for students as the game’s spring season was immediately suspended.
