RCMP now says a man was fatally shot and killed early Sunday morning in West Kelowna and that was the reason for the closure of a section of Highway 97 between Butt and Grizzly Roads.
“The investigation has the characteristics of a targeted shootout. The BC Coroners Service has also been notified and will be conducting an investigative investigation to determine a cause of death,” the RCMP said in a press release, noting that the Southeast District is a major crime unit Place.
The highway reopened shortly after 1 p.m. on March 21.
Investigators are looking for someone with information about this incident, who was in the area between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. this morning, March 21st, and specifically, motorists with dash cameras who were driving the highway at the time to contact the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477.
