The suspicious package found outside a Kelowna store this morning did not contain any explosives.

Shops were cordoned off and evacuated in front of one of the shops at Block 100 on Davie Road in Rutland just after 11 a.m. on July 5th today.

While waiting for the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit to arrive and checking to see if the package posed a threat, an RCMP police dog from Kelowna gave the package the all-clear, according to an RCMP media release.

Davie Road was closed between Highway 33 and Hollydell Road, and Saskatoon Road was closed between Davie Road and Dundas Road. They have since reopened.

The investigation into the origin of the package is ongoing, RCMP said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or post a tip online at Crimestoppers.net.
