The Heat continues to expand their 2019 recruiting class with 5’9 ” guard Jenessa Knapp of Langley, BC

The current student at Brookswood Secondary School will join Heat next fall and enter the Bachelor of Arts program in hopes of eventually working in the criminal justice system.

“I am very impressed with the overall feel of the UBCO campus and the UBCO community. I enjoyed interacting with the team and coaches and I feel like I would fit in well. I also believe that UBCO will provide me with the educational platform I need to achieve my career goals, ”said Knapp. “Basketball is such a big part of my life. I’m so excited to be able to do what I love while attending UBCO. “

So far, during her time at Brookswood, Knapp has helped her team to a bronze medal at the 2017 provincial championships and a fifth place last spring with the Bobcats. She was a 2nd Team All-Star in 2016 and was voted Player of the Game multiple times in her high school career.

Her club career included a time at BC Finest from 2013 to 2017 and most recently a stint at BC United in 2017/2018.

Competitive and elite sports are a shared passion in the family, her stepmother was on the Canadian national figure skating team for five years and was a substitute for the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary.

Jenessa is a hard working player who gets her job done and doesn’t give in in any situation, ”said Bobby Mitchell, head coach.

“She can score, play and defend the point. It’s exciting to have a guard like Jenessa with her versatility with us. We love their passion for the game. If you watch her play, you can see that she loves to be outside and wants to do whatever her team needs from her. “

Knapp forms a group of four early signers for Mitchell and the Heat’s women’s basketball team. The 6’3-inch guard is already profiled, Emily Instant, a 5-foot-7-inch guard from Saskatoon, Mira Witt, as well as Vernon’s outstanding Kelsey Falk, has committed to the heat.
