Tree crashes through the roof

Mother Nature devastated the Okanagan Valley this morning and a house in Kelowna’s Crawford Estates area was knocked down by a falling tree in the wind.

Kathy Stone was walking her dog when she came across the badly damaged house.

She says the owners of the house were in the yard when she passed and everyone was fine. The tree fell just before 7 a.m.

The tree damaged not only the roof of the house, but also a second large tree in the front yard of the house.

“The tree in front, which is also very tall when the other tree came down, hit the roof and cut off all the branches of the front tree on one side,” says Stone.

There are professionals on site who remove the big tree from the house.

Several other trees are down in the area as well.

Fallen trees and power lines across BC left thousands in the dark across the province.

BC Hydro reported that more than 100,000 customers had lost power, with the hardest hit areas being Abbotsford, Victoria and Vernon. FortisBC worked to restore power to around 2,100 customers in the Kelowna area.

The interior of BC experienced a special weather forecast with wind gusts of up to 46 km / h in Kelowna, 72 km / h in Penticton, 57 km / h in Vernon and 74 km / h in Kamloops.

Below are photos submitted by Okanagan residents following the aftermath of the storm. If you have photos, send them to [email protected].
