RCMP in West Kelowna is looking for the suspect who was involved in the theft of multiple helicopter parts from a vehicle overnight on Friday, December 5th.
RCMP Cst Kris Clark said West Kelowna police received a report of a theft from a vehicle in the 2100 block of Peters Road at 8:10 a.m. on Saturday, December 6th.
Clark said a total of 31 helicopter parts in various boxes were removed from an Alpine Helicopters delivery truck at an estimated replacement value of $ 397,000.
Unfortunately to the thief, however, the parts are basically worthless due to security protocols for selling such items.
“All helicopter parts are given a serial number and must have traceable origins in order to be sold,” said Jill Seaton, Chief Financial Officer of Alpine Helicopters.
“The parts would be quickly noticed and reported in the event of any repairs.”
This process helps ensure the safety of helicopter operators worldwide as they know the full history of every part all the way through to production.
