Competition “sense of home”

What does home mean to you?

Habitat for Humanity’s national student writing competition focuses on “the importance of home,” and over the past year, homes have become more than ever the center of life, school and work.

The competition invites students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to submit a poem or short essay about what home means to them.

“The Importance of Home Contest is a great opportunity for teens to ponder the importance of a home and what it means to them,” said Kathleen Lemieux, director of fund development at Habitat for Humanity Okanagan.

Three grand prize winners, one from each class, will receive a $ 30,000 scholarship that will be forwarded to the local habitat build of their choice. Nine runners-up, three from each class, will receive a $ 10,000 grant for local habitat construction.

Each student entry receives a $ 10 donation to the student’s local Habitat for Humanity to ensure the communities benefit from each participant.

Teachers or parents interested in their students’ participation can also access an online education module that provides tips and information on affordable housing in Canada.

The “Sinn der Heimat” competition runs until February 19th.
