The Okanagan Humane Society (OHS) is switching online to fundraise amid COVID-19.
For the first time in its 24-year history, the OHS will hold its annual fundraiser online and redirect the organization into the digital world.
Over the years, the 100 percent volunteer-run organization has worked tirelessly not only to help animals in the Okanagan Valley and Shuswap regions, but also to keep up with the way the public is interacting and donating with OHS.
“We are excited to start our raffle online and target a whole new audience that may not know about our organization,” said OHS President Romany Runnalls.
“We hope our supporters will enjoy the ease of buying online and helping animals in their community. This year we had some wonderful supporters who gave great prizes. We know the lucky ticket has fun winning our main prize. “
The new OHS online animal rescue raffle will raise vital funds for animals in need from the Shuswap region to the South Okanagan. All prizes were generously donated by supporters, which means that all of the money from the raffle will be used for OHS animal rescue work.

The timing of this raffle highlights the ongoing work of the OHS volunteers. Recently, an OHS team of volunteers traveled to Cherryville for a large-scale trapping and rescue operation. OHS and rescuers were able to bring 11 cats and kittens with them to be repaired, vaccinated, chipped and placed on farms.
Society has about six to eight more catches before the end of November to make sure they are all rescued before the snow flies.
“We have a massive rescue on our hands and will need more than $ 5,000 to ensure these cats receive proper veterinary care, which includes spay / neuter, vaccinations, deworming and microchiping,” said Runnalls. “We really need the help of the community with donations to give these animals a chance to fight.”
Anyone who wants to donate directly can do so here and will immediately receive a tax certificate for charity.
The OHS animal rescue raffle begins November 4, 2020 and runs until March 21, 2021. The entry ticket for the animal rescue raffle costs USD 5.00.
