It may have been a year like no other, but that won’t stop Kelowna’s annual Civic and Community Awards.
The nomination deadline for the 46th annual edition of the awards, which recognizes outstanding citizens, businesses and contributions, is now open.
“We appreciate that this year has been exceptional and these awards are an opportunity for us to recognize those in our community who have shown themselves to be incredibly resilient and positive in what has been a challenging year for so many in our community,” he told Mariko Siggers, Kelowna City.
Kelowna residents are welcome to submit nominations for the following awards:
- Sarah Donalda Treadgold & Fred Macklin Memorial Award – Citizen of the Year
- Champion for the environment
- Corporate community of the year
- Honor in the arts
- Teen honor in the arts
- Young male and female volunteers of the year
- Bob Giordano Memorial Award – Volunteer Trainer or Sports Administrator of the Year
- Bryan Couling Memorial Award – Sports Team of the Year
- Sportswoman of the year
- Central Okanagan Foundation – Volunteer Organization of the Year
Thanks to the pandemic, one notable difference is the lack of the “Male and Female Athlete of the Year” and “Athletic Team of the Year” categories.
“We know that there may not be as many nominations in the sports categories this year as there are no team-based competitions,” said Siggers.
“With this in mind, and in the expectation that the pandemic measures affecting competitive sport will continue until 2021, we have decided to combine all nominations this year with those coming next year as part of the 47th annual awards program come in. “
Nomination forms are due by February 12, 2021. Visit the Kelowna City website for more information.
