The Canadian males’s hockey crew units a document with the 16th Spengler Cup – Kelowna Capital Information

Canada has won the Spengler Cup for the fourth time in the past five years.

The Canadian team, made up mostly of professionals from Europe, including many ex-NHLers, beat Trinec Ocelari of the Czech Republic 4-0 in the final of the annual Christmas tournament today.

It was the 16th overall victory in the Spengler Cup for Canada and for most of the tournament’s history it was a draw with hosts HC Davos.

Canada took the lead 4-0 this year and beat their opponents 19-2. This set a record for the fewest goals in the tournament.

Goalkeeper Zach Fucale made 26 saves for his second consecutive shutout.

The native Laval, Que., Who plays for Orlando of the ECHL this season, gave up just one goal in three starts. He finished the race with 0.33 goals against the average and a saving of 0.986 percent.

Fucale is 10-0-1 in three appearances at the Spengler Cup.

Dustin Jeffrey, with two, Ian Mitchell and Kris Versteeg scored for Canada.

After a goalless first phase, Canada scored three power play goals in 4:07 and took the lead.

Canadian defenseman Maxim Noreau, strikers Kevin Clark and Fucale have been added to the tournament’s All-Star team

Canada lost the final in a shootout against KalPa Kuopio from Finland last year.
