Bahamas “Show Must Go On”

Despite one obstacle after another, live music comes to the Kelowna Community Theater this weekend.

Canadian singer-songwriter Afie Jurvanen, known by the stage name Bahamas, will play two shows at the local theater on Sunday after a second show was recently added to meet Interior Health’s COVID regulations.

And with all the highways connecting the Lower Mainland to the inland closed due to widespread flooding and mudslides, concert promoter Jelly Events is now flying Jurvanen to Kelowna.

“Wow, a pandemic and now all highways are closed … but the show has to go on!” said Bill Jaswal of Jelly Events.

While the COVID-19 concert and sports venue capacity restrictions were lifted last month in most parts of BC, indoor concerts remain limited to 50 percent of capacity. Jurvanen plays two shows on Sunday – a matinee at 3 p.m. and an evening show at 8 p.m. – both with 50 percent occupancy. Tickets for both shows are sold out.

The last 400 tickets purchased are assigned to the matinee show, while the first ticket buyers are assigned to the evening show. Select your tickets to contact ticket holders to see which show they have been assigned.

All participants aged 12 and over must prove that they have had a double vaccination.

Jurvanen, a five-time JUNO winner, won Sad Hunk’s Adult Alternative Album of the Year award last week, making him the first to receive the award for three consecutive albums.
