UBC Okanagan will host one of the most prestigious softball tournaments for women in the country this fall.

The best university teams in the country will move to town for the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association championships, scheduled October 8-10 at High Noon Park.

Eight teams, including the host Heat, will compete for the national championship.

“Receiving the 2021 National Championship says a lot about the respect our young program and its leadership group have earned in such a short space of time,” said Tom Huisman, UBCO Director of Athletics and Recreation, of the selection.

“This is a national endorsement not only for our team but also for the softball communities in Kelowna and the greater Okanagan area.”

The Heat program has only been running for three years.

“I am happy for our players and I am confident that our staff, the athletics department and the organizing committee will do everything they can to organize a first-class event,” said Joni Frei, head coach of the softball team.

“It is an exciting time for college softball in British Columbia and I am honored that our program can be a part of it.”

This is the first time this championship has been held in BC
