A fire broke out overnight in the loading bays of the Walmart store in West Kelowna.

The West Kelowna Fire Department responded to the scene on Louie Drive at around 2 a.m. and found a tractor trailer on fire.

The fire is of a suspicious nature.

The crews were able to put out the fire quickly and keep the fire damage on the trailer and on the outside of the building, says assistant fire chief Lionel Bateman.

There was considerable smoke development inside the building.

Firefighters ventilated the building and the RCMP and fire investigators will be on site all morning.

WKFR responded with three engines, a cart, two investigators and a commando unit, as well as 20 firefighters.

RCMP, BC Hydro, Fortis Gas, and West Bank First Nation law enforcement personnel provided on-site assistance.
