If you enjoy wearing full body tights, the occasional cape, and harnessing your unique superpowers, check out the new show at the Kelowna Art Gallery, titled Superheroes & Supervillains.

Forty artists have created works of art exploring the subculture and phenomena of their favorite superhero and villain cartoon characters.

The exhibition features work in a variety of media including traditional animation drawing, digital media, sculpture, and mixed media.

Superheroes & Supervillains opened this week and will run until March 8th.

It is presented in collaboration with the local artist group Art Brew, the same team that was behind the Saturday Morning cartoons shown in the gallery in Fall 2013.

Jessika von Innerebner, member of Art Brew and one of the organizers of this show, said: “Working on this show is so much fun – visitors will love it. In addition, it provides Kelowna’s vibrant tech / digital art community with an important opportunity to share their work with the Kelowna audience. “

“The work is so imaginative that it will definitely be a hit with the kids visiting the gallery as part of our school tour program this winter,” added Renee Burgess, director of the gallery’s public program. “I don’t think we’ll have any trouble getting students or gallery goers to study the pieces and start a discussion about who their favorite heroes and villains are.”

The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water St. in downtown Kelowna. For more information on current exhibitions, public programs, or special events, visit the Kelowna Art Gallery online at kelownaartgallery.com.
