Sports fields receive new lighting thanks to federal reinforcement
Two sports fields in West Kelowna are lit thanks to the Canada 150 program
The sports fields in West Kelowna are getting new lighting thanks to a Canada 150 program.
Players, parents, coaches and spectators will benefit from the new lighting being installed on two sports fields in West Kelowna from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
Mayor Doug Findlater said, “We are very grateful to the Government of Canada for providing funding for this project. The Canada 150 program contribution adds two years to the timeline of these projects and, most importantly, directly benefits the thousands of people in our city who participate in and contribute to organized sports such as baseball, soccer, soccer and softball. “
Construction is now underway and the projects should be completed in time for the lights to be turned on in September as daylight hours decrease in the fall.
“The lighting will add about an hour a day to the game in these fields in the summer and by several hours in the spring and fall, fulfilling a request that several sports groups have made to the council in recent years,” said Findlater.
The cost of installing LED lighting on the Lower Boucherie and Rosewood Sports sports fields is $ 848,747, including controls, equipment, guidance and performance enhancements. The federal government is contributing $ 337,750 to the project under the program.
