Corn stalls are not open

These almost iconic green and yellow corn stalls will be down in Kelowna this year due to recruiting difficulties and local competition.
Sparkes Corn Barn, which sells Fraser Valley corn at street stalls, announced on Facebook Friday that it will not operate in Kelowna this season.
The family business says it hasn’t been able to find employees and managers to run the drive-through corn stalls.
“We also received a lot of resistance from a local farmer. This farmer called the newspaper and the city complaining that our corn stalls were being stored on farmland. He did everything possible to remove us from Kelowna. Apparently this farmer didn’t appreciate the competition, ”Sparkes Corn Barn said on Facebook.
The company says it is currently inundated selling its corn at locations in Vernon and the Fraser Valley.
“We also deliver our corn to large grocery stores in the three western provinces. Maybe in the future, if it works, we could reopen our Kelowna barns. At the moment we don’t see this happening in the near future, ”said Sparkes, thanking his customers for their support.
