A crash at Hwy 97 and Dilworth Drive on Monday.

UPDATE 4:15pm

Continued snowfall and slippery conditions means Highway 97 is moving much slower that usual during the afternoon commute.

There are no active crashes along the corridor, but drivers are reporting delays while moving through the city on Harvey Avenue. Traffic is also slow on Gordon Drive and Pandosy Street.

Motorists are advised to give themselves extra time to reach their destination.

The City of Kelowna says crews have been out clearing snow since it started falling on Friday.

We have every piece of equipment and staff member possible out clearing the way. Please drive, walk and cycle carefully and be patient as they work their way around the city,” the city said on social media.

Highway 97 is the responsibility of the provincial government while the city clears other roadways.

UPDATE 12:50pm

Emergency crews are dealing with a three vehicle crash at Harvey Avenue and Dilworth Drive that is causing big delays.

The crash involving a taxi is partially blocking the intersection. Witnesses say it doesn’t appear anyone is seriously hurt and everyone was out of the vehicle waiting for tow trucks to arrive.

Traffic is backing up significantly on Harvey Avenue.

There are also reports of a minor crash up the highway at the intersection of Highway 33.

Police have advised drivers who don’t absolutely need to travel to stay home.

UPDATE 9:53 am

Traffic has returned to normal on Highway 97 near Old Vernon Rd. after a collision slowed the morning commute Monday.

ORIGINAL 8:40 am

Traffic on Highway 97 is slow going in the southbound lane near the Kelowna International Airport Monday morning.

The collision looks like it’s in the southbound lane close to the south end of Ellison Lake, traffic is backed up from Old Vernon Rd. to the jammery.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Kelowna calling for more snowfall accumulation near 5 cm. combined with strong northwest winds which are creating blowing snow conditions.

The snow is expected to ease this afternoon as the low moves further south.

If you’re traveling to YLW this morning you are advised to check the departures online as there have been several delays and cancellations Monday morning as well.
