The Slavic United Network has been helping bring Ukrainian refugees to Canada for the past nine months, and now they’re in need of donations from the Okanagan community.
The initiative — which started as a way to help Ukrainians fleeing the country because of war — has helped bring 50 families to Kelowna, Lake Country and Vernon, with 170 Ukrainians now living throughout the Okanagan.
Due to generous help from local churches, businesses, and giving individuals, Ukrainian families have been provided accommodation, furniture for their homes, clothing, food, and transportation.
On November 26 and 27, a donation drive will be taking place at 470 Banks Road in Kelowna in order to help the Slavic United Network continue their work of helping refugees escape war and come to Canada.
Between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, the donation drive will be accepting donations, including: towels, blankets of all sizes, kids socks, hats, gloves, snow pants, jackets, boots, winter clothing, adult gloves , jackets hats, boots, winter clothing, thermal wear, groceries, gift cards, etc.
Ben Dimitrov Jr., who will be helping with the fundraiser, says Ukrainians are settling in Vernon, Lake Country and now Kelowna, and with many of them not knowing the language, any form of help from locals goes a long way.
