At least one illegal event closed in the Interior Health area over the long Easter weekend due to numerous parties being held.
One of them appears to have been a houseboat party in Kelowna with more than 20 people on board.
“There have been a number of incidents that we heard of inland this past weekend,” said provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, during a press conference today, April 8th, on a question about the houseboat party in Kelowna.
She pointed out that the organizers of such events and the companies involved in them, as well as the participants, are fined.

“We can’t host this type of event right now,” said Dr. Henry. “There was another event that had people from Alberta, Saskatchewan and other places, and when we heard about it, it closed too.”
She did not say where or what this event was.
A series of parties in Kelowna last summer sparked orders to limit the number of people who could stay in rental accommodation. There are other arrangements in place to prevent people outside of their immediate budget bubbles from socializing.
“We have a mandate that restricts vacation rentals – and houseboats fall into that category – that people celebrate, gatherings are held in these environments, and we recently expanded those mandates to prevent them from happening,” said Dr. Henry.
