Change of intersection is coming

A right turn east from Bernard Avenue to Glenmore Drive is being redesigned to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Road works begin on Monday and are expected to be completed by the end of July. Motorists are advised to drive around the area, while commercial trucks are not allowed to turn right at this point during construction.

A “smart right turn” forces the vehicle to enter the cross street at a more acute angle, reducing the turning radius and slowing the driver to complete the turn. The more acute entry angle also means that more of the intersection and cross street is in the driver’s immediate field of vision, so that the driver can better see oncoming traffic and pedestrians

The change will improve right turns at several key intersections across the city, and the project, which is partially funded by ICBC, is priced at $ 60,000.
