The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce is relaunching its “Top 40 Over 40 presented by BDO” to celebrate individuals in the community over 40 years old.
These are people who present themselves as mentors, champions and role models and who encourage and encourage future leaders of the community.
The Kelowna Chamber will identify new honors between February and July 2021. Every year the program changes between over 40 and under 40 honorees. This is the sixth year of the program as 2021 marks an “Over 40” year.
Scott Simpson says he has been fortunate to have been part of the Kelowna business community for over 23 years.
Seventeen of those years were in the banking or service sector.
During his 10 years as a marketing professional with a large local credit union and five years as a marketing and quoting professional with a national accounting firm, his role included leading corporate social responsibility and community engagement.
This enabled him to create practical networking between the business community and the organizations, charities, events and initiatives that shape the fabric and health of the local region.
In addition to the aspect of brand activation, Scott found great fulfillment in being able to fund the nonprofits and events that strengthen this community.
During the pandemic, he steered his career in a completely new direction and is now enjoying his time as Commercial Account Manager at RBC to the full.
His industry focus is on working with wineries, vineyards and tree fruit growers in the region.
Throughout his career, he has had experience leading an advertising sales team of five to eight people and has had the privilege of working with a range of talented managers and executives who pursued a coaching, participatory or strategic leadership style.
These are all styles that appeal to him, from which he has extracted various approaches that he now implements in his work with RBC and his commercial clients.
“Today,” says Scott, “I am fortunate to work with an organization at RBC that is dedicated to the careers and professional development of all of its employees. The RBC leadership model includes a culture of continuous learning, adaptability and the promotion of an inclusive culture in which everyone feels confident that they are committed to the well-being of our colleagues and our customers. ”
Scott firmly believes in the importance and value of volunteering throughout life.
It enables individuals to give back to the community in which they live, and provides people with mental and physical health benefits, as well as a sense of connectedness and achievement.
In late spring and early summer 2021, he volunteered his time as part of the Nourish Families Initiative to deliver meals that benefited the wonderful nonprofit Childhood Connections and several local restaurants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
When his son was younger, he volunteered for a season as a minor hockey coach with the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association.
Over the years he’s also enjoyed participating in many of the community’s annual fundraising drives, including the YMCA Cycle for Strong Children, the United Way Bus Pull, the 24-Hour Relay, BCCH Bats for a Cause, and the Pride Parade.
Scott’s education includes an Associate of Arts Degree, Business Administration, Marketing.
He also completed and received his Credit Union Institute of Canada Fellowship Designation.
