A public park in the central Okanagan was expanded following a land swap agreement.
This week, the Central Okanagan County (RDCO) announced that it has acquired approximately 10 new acres of land for the Scenic Canyon Regional Park in Kelowna, plus a drive of 0.86 acres.
The county says the right of way will provide connections to Mission Creek Greenway and the parks and trails of the city of Kelowna.

The county gained nearly 11 acres from property owner David Geen and sold 8.67 acres of parkland to Geen.

In addition, the RDCO will receive compensation of $ 454,000 for the difference in property value.

The land swap received the green light after barely resisting the RDCO’s alternative approval process.
Ten percent of voters in the region, or 20,598 people, had to file forms by March 1, saying they were against the deal. However, the regional district stated that it received only two opposing forms.
