Saskatchewan urged that budget day be removed from the anniversary of the Broncos crash

The provincial government will not change the April 6 date after the opposition MLA calls it insensitive

Saskatchewan Prime Minister Scott Moe says his administration will not change its plan to present the spring budget on the same day as the anniversary of the fatal Humboldt Broncos crash.

Sixteen people were killed and thirteen injured when a semi-trailer truck drove a stop sign at a rural intersection and sped onto the path of the junior ice hockey team’s bus on April 6, 2018.

An inexperienced truck driver was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to causing the accident.

NDP financial critic Trent Wotherspoon said a victim’s family had raised concerns to him that the Saskatchewan Party’s plan to introduce its April 6 budget was impervious.

Moe says his government will not postpone the date and plans to place hockey sticks outside of the legislative assembly to remind everyone who has been affected by the collision.

The Prime Minister says Finance Minister Donna Harpauer represents the Humboldt area and understands the weight of the tragedy for the people in the community.
