Curtis Sagmoen, a high-profile man from North Okanagan with a history of assault, adjourned his last indictment in Vernon Courts on Thursday (February 11).

Sagmoen, 40, was accused of assaulting a police officer, Cpl. Kovacs, in an incident on October 29, 2020 in Spallumcheen. He was due to appear in court Thursday to plead guilty or not guilty, but the hearing was quickly adjourned and postponed until March 4.

The October 29 incident coincided with a police search warrant from Sagmoen’s home on his parents’ property on Salmon River Road. Police visited the farm earlier this month after being drawn to suspicious activity. The RCMP also posted a photo of Sagmoen – notorious for crimes against sex workers – in the interests of public safety

In 2017, the Salmon River Road property was the subject of another, much larger, police search that identified the remains of 18-year-old Traci Genereaux from Vernon. No charges have been brought regarding her death, although police consider her death to be suspicious.

Sagmoen was absent from court on Thursday, but a group of protesters who had meticulously followed his case were stationed outside the courthouse at -15 ° C, continuing their demands for justice for missing and murdered women and girls.

Sagmoen’s story with the law includes an assault conviction exactly a year ago after he deliberately ran over a sex worker with an ATV.

In December 2019, he was found guilty of disguising his face in order to commit a criminal offense, using a gun and possessing methamphetamine during a crime. However, he was released the same day as he was in custody.
