Safe-Ceremony wins Kelowna Enterprise Excellence Awards

Secure-Rite Mobile Storage was recognized for not only business skills but also social awareness at the 33rd Annual Kelowna Business Excellence Awards Thursday.

Secure-Rite received the trophy for medium-sized company of the year and the Social Leadership Award.

“We’re very honored,” said Secure-Rite owner and president Lucas Griffin.

“We would like to thank the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce for their hard work and efforts throughout the process, and for coordinating an exciting (and safe) gala.”

<p>Due to COVID, the awards show was virtual and the finalists tuned in to see who would win.</p>
<p>Secure-Rite was the only finalist to receive multiple awards.</p>
<p>The Big White Ski Resort was recognized for excellence in tourism and is part of the Okanagan Bucketlist, which together with Predator Ridge Golf Resort, Mission Hill Winery, Eldorado Resort and Sparkling Hill Resort received the award for Marketing Campaign of the Year .</p>
<p>Founded 16 years ago by Griffin in Kelowna, Secure-Rite now has multiple locations in BC and Alberta selling and renting shipping containers for mobile warehouses, mobile offices and mobile homes.</p>
<p>Winning social leadership was in recognition of the Secure-Rite team who gave back time, money, and products for the Southern Interior United Way, Kelowna Animal Food Bank, Fill the Container Pet Food Drive, and the Alberta Cancer Foundation.</p>
<p>Secure-Rite has become an Excellence Awards winner over the years, receiving the Rising Star award in 2007 and the Small Business of the Year trophy in 2013.</p>

The big business of the year is always closely watched.

This year, the award went to Highstreet Ventures, the builder and operator of apartment complexes like Mission Flats in Kelowna, Carrington View and Carrington Place in West Kelowna, Skaha Shore in Penticton and Creekview Heights in Vernon.

<p>Brandon Panopoulos was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year.</p>
<p>He has grown rapidly, joined TKI Construction 10 years ago and bought the company in 2017.</p>
<p>TKI built the Cheeba Cheeba cannabis stores in Kelowna and West Kelowna, Blenz Coffee in the Okanagan Innovation Center, the Child Advocacy Center in Kelowna, and the Urgent & Primary Care Center in Vernon.</p>

Laurel Douglas was named Business Leader of the Year a week earlier to create a hype around the awards.

Douglas is the Executive Director of the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust and formerly CEO of the Women’s Enterprise Center.
