Osoyoos and West Kelowna are two of the communities in BC that have benefited from the upgrades Rogers made over the past year and a half during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The communications company has improved its wireless network in more than 250 communities and along major highways. Osoyoos and West Kelowna were two locations getting new network locations, and Rogers has partnered with Kelowna to launch Canada’s first 5G smart city pilot.
“Since the pandemic began, next-generation networks have become even more important to businesses and families in our largest cities, our rural, remote and indigenous communities,” said Rick Sellers, president of Rogers BC, in a press release.
“We look forward to working with governments and continuing to invest in our networks to improve connectivity in British Columbia and provide our communities with the backbone to participate in the digital economy as we look to Canada’s recovery.”
The company plans to expand and improve connectivity in an additional 75 communities by the end of 2021, and says the upcoming purchase of Shaw will make the improvement even faster.
