Residents asked to keep the Kelowna sports fields off until the official opening

Sports fields closed for maintenance work before the season

Residents are reminded to stay away from local sports fields until they are officially open.

It may feel like spring in Kelowna, but the city’s sports fields will remain closed until they’re ready for the season.

Sports fields need special care after the colder winter months so that they are safe and ready to play.

Playing early on sports fields can result in player injury and closure of fields. Therefore, residents are asked to hold back until these areas have been properly prepared.

Ball diamonds are scheduled to open on Tuesday April 6th and the rest of the fields on Monday April 12th, weather permitting. The Apple Bowl Track is currently open.

In preparation for these upcoming dates, the city’s staff will test irrigation systems and cultivate quality lawns.

Once the fields are open for the season, teams looking for a playground can call 250-469-8800 or visit www.kelowna.ca/parks-recreation/recreation-facilities-fields/sports-fields.

Families and individuals looking for places to do non-organized sports can visit some of the larger parks in Kelowna, such as Ben Lee Park, Rowcliffe Park, or North Field in City Park.
