Resident case in the nursing home

Interior Health has confirmed an “outbreak” has been reported at the Mountainview Village long-term care home in Kelowna.

An employee and resident on the second floor of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak log was issued in both the Eastern and Western units on the second floor.

“Employees who are in close contact with these people are in self-isolation and monitor symptoms. IH will continue to monitor the situation and take additional infection control and prevention measures, “said Interior Health.

All visits for long-term care residents have been suspended except for compassionate care.

Mountainview Village is owned and operated by the nonprofit Good Samaritan Society with 90 publicly funded care beds.

Two cases of COVID-19 have been detected in a nursing home in Kelowna.

One resident and one employee each at Good Samaritan Mountainview Village have tested positive for the virus, according to the nonprofit that operates the facility.

The resident case is the first in the Interior Health region, with all previous COVID-19 cases in nursing homes being for employees only.

Interior Health has not yet released any information on the Mountainview Village cases, but an “outbreak” protocol has been put in place that includes suspension of visits and increased surveillance.

The facility comprises 81 independent residential apartments, 89 suites for assisted living and 90 complex care suites.
