Renee Merrifield has officially announced that she will join the race to become the next chairman of the BC Liberal Party.
“I run because I believe in people,” said Renee.
“I’m running because I believe in the potential of this province, I’m running because I want to build better affiliation for all British Columbians. It starts right here with how we build our party. I believe in whoever ‘you are or wherever you’re from, there’s a place for you at the BC Liberal Party. “
“I believe you belong. My goal is to build a team – a movement – so that together we can take the opportunity to win the support and trust of our compatriots in British Columbia in the next election, ”she added.
Merrifield was elected as the MLA for the Kelowna Mission for the BC Liberals after longtime incumbent Steve Thompson decided against re-election.
She is the CEO of Troika Developments and has served on the boards of First West Credit Union, the Interior Health Authority, the Urban Development Institute, the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission, and the Breakfast Club of Canada.
Merrifield was also named as a health critic of the BC Liberals after the 2020 elections and replaced the long-time MLA norm Letnick from Kelowna-Lake Country.
Castanet reached out on Sunday to confirm the news after Merrifield’s personal website found she was the best person to take on the leadership role for her party, but Rob Murphy, who is part of the campaign, told Castanet that comments by next week.
The BC Liberals leadership elections are due to take place next February.
