Mona Lisa back in Kelowna

The Mona Lisa is back where it belongs – in a store in downtown Kelowna.

The replica painting of the Mona Lisa was stolen from a downtown store on November 20, according to the RCMP.

After reviewing the incident’s security footage, the officers present shared the information and description with other Mounties in the department.

Five days later, police officers Gauthier and Boutin saw a man who matched the thief’s description on a foot patrol.

The suspect admitted to officials that he was in possession of the painting, which was confiscated and returned to the owner.

“In this particular case, the return of the painting was more valuable to the owner than the prosecution,” says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

“This is an example of our officers working at their own discretion towards the best end-result for the victim. At the end of the day, the painting is back where it belongs and the owners are happy. “
