Kelowna’s version of the artwork, though not quite like the theft of the real Mona Lisa, was stolen and found by RCMP officials a few days later.

On November 20, a downtown Kelowna company reported that the Mona Lisa’s replica painting had been stolen, according to an RCMP media release. The painting had sentimental value to the business owners and employees, and they were quite upset that it was stolen.

A police officer checked the security footage of the unidentified company and identified a suspect.

On November 25, two officers from the Kelowna RCMP Community Safety Unit were patrolling downtown when they saw a man who looked like the suspect. They approached the man and he admitted he was in possession of the stolen painting. The officers confiscated the painting and returned it to a grateful owner.

“In this particular case, the return of the painting was more valuable to the owner than the prosecution,” says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP in the press release. “This is an example of our officials working at their own discretion towards the best ultimate goal for the victim. At the end of the day, the painting is back where it belongs and the owners are happy. ”
