RCMP investigates after numerous anti-Semitic decals and posters were found near Kelowna General Hospital.
According to an RCMP media release, Kelowna City Police have been notified of the anti-Semitic decals and posters posted along Abbott Street and near Kelowna General Hospital on March 19.
Officers also discovered decals on a bus stop outside Kelowna General Hospital and checked videos from the area to help narrow down the time of the crime, RCMP said.
“The posters have been removed and the investigation is in the early stages. The RCMP Forensic Identification Unit is busy,” Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Kevin Duggan said in the publication. “The RCMP is working closely with the City of Kelowna to review videos that can help identify stakeholders.”
Mayor Colin Basran issued a statement on the incident on March 19.
“I am saddened and concerned that such views still exist here and elsewhere. But as a council, we hope that our Jewish friends, along with people of all faiths and races, will find some comfort in knowing that these events are rare and that those ignorant voices are a small margin, unlike the many thousands in Kelowna who believe in inclusion, diversity and courtesy, “he said.
I do not want to pay more attention than it deserves to the person or persons who carried out this anti-Semitic act, so that is all I have to say on the matter. ”
Anyone with information or dash cam footage that could help the investigation is asked to call the police.
