A real estate development company in Kelowna has made changes to a planned major project in hopes of getting city council approval.

Mission Group’s Aqua development comprises around 350 residential units in three towers and retail space on the roadside next to the Hotel Eldorado on the lakeshore. There would also be an adjacent in-boat storage facility.

Based on the contributions received during the consultations following the zoning approval, the company has reduced the height of the proposed high-rise buildings from 13-19 floors to 12-16 floors.

It also changed the building designs to highlight more terraces overlooking the waterfront.

“The city has long envisioned a vibrant, resort-style neighborhood here,” said mission group spokesman Luke Turri in a press release.

“We believe our plan now reflects Kelowna’s growing world-class reputation and meets public expectations for a beautiful and accessible waterfront neighborhood – and we hope we will exceed them.”

The press release said: The public enjoyment of the waterfront has been improved by reducing the number of waterfront townhouses and adding a community-accessible water area.

The mission group will apply for a development permit at the city council meeting on January 23rd.

A public information meeting will take place on January 18 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hotel Eldorado. The project model is exhibited.

“We believe that Aqua’s world-class design and significant community benefits will help create a new waterfront destination that the community can enjoy,” said Turri.
