The RCMP in Kelowna posted a picture of the suspect attempting a break-in on Monday morning.

Police were called to the 200 block of Riverside Avenue just after 11:00 a.m. on September 6 to make a report about a man disguised as a utility worker who knocked on the door of a house. The suspect persuaded one of the residents to go outside and sprayed him with maces.

“The victim, a man in his 60s, was able to run back into the apartment and prevent the suspect from entering. The suspect fled when his entry attempts failed, ”says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy from the Kelowna RCMP.

“This was a very scary incident for the residents of the house who were simply enjoying a quiet morning on Labor Day.”

The police are looking for a single suspect who is described as a stocky man about six feet tall.

He carried:

  • A gray shirt;
  • Safety vest;
  • Yellow hard hat;
  • blue non-medicated face mask;
  • Blue gloves;
  • Jeans.

Police are asking nearby residents to check their video systems and dashcams to see if they might have arrested the suspect in the area that morning.
