UPDATE: 1:53 p.m.

Some officials have begun to leave the area and the perimeter has now been reopened to the public.

Local officers said although the area is reopened, the winners will be closed for the time being as a precaution.

UPDATE: 1:14 p.m.

An employee of an Orchard Plaza company, who refused to be named, told Capital News that there was a potential bomb hazard in the area.

The clerk said officials came into several stores and told them to evacuate immediately.

Capital News reporter Phil McLachlan said only Winners were cordoned off and no other companies.

UPDATE: 1:08 pm

Police are staged at the winners’ entrance at Orchard Plaza, and a large perimeter has been set up in the parking lot.

Local officials were unable to confirm details, but continue to urge people to avoid the area.

Kelowna RCMP urges the public to avoid the 1800 block of Cooper Road due to a police incident.

In a press release dated September 25 at 12:35 pm, officials responded to a report of a “suspicious circumstance” in the region.

The investigation has closed the area and shut down numerous businesses.

“The police are urging the public to stay out of the area and use alternative routes for vehicle and pedestrian travel. How long these closings will remain in effect is unknown, ”RCMP said in a press release.

“This is an evolving situation and the details are minimal. Further information will be provided as required. “
