One case of COVID has been confirmed at an elementary school in Coldstream.

Kidston Elementary School principal Debbie Cullum sent a letter to parents on Saturday, February 13, saying a member of the Kindergarten / Grade 1 community had tested positive for COVID-19.

The letter does not state whether it was a student or a staff member, but the person is “self-isolating at home with the assistance of local health teams.”

The dates of the school exposure are listed on the letter from February 9th to 11th.

“We are assisting the Interior Health Authority with contact tracing to determine if other members of our school community have had contact with those who tested positive for COVID-19 and if additional steps are required,” Cullum wrote.

Only the IHA determines who is a close contact.

When a family is contacted by IHA, Cullum tells them to follow their advice. If they are not contacted, their child is at no risk of developing COVID-19.

No further details are given to ensure that data protection rights are respected.

“The safety and well-being of our students, families and employees continue to be our top priority,” said Cullum. “Please rest assured that our school will continue to use the strict protocols and procedures we have put in place so that children can continue to attend school as safely as possible.”

Students are asked to continue to come to school while the contact tracing is in progress. Families are reminded to conduct daily health checks to monitor their children for illness.

“We will continue to work closely with the IHA to ensure continuous communication when necessary,” said Cullum.
