Another sky-high residential tower in downtown Kelowna

Last week, plans for a 41-story apartment building were presented to the city

Another developer has proposed a sky-scraping residential tower for downtown Kelowna.

This time it is a 41-story building next to the UBC Okanagan campus to be built on the corner of Doyle Avenue and St. Paul Street. An area developer, Kerkhoff Developments, is shaping the “university center of the city center”.

Kerkhoff submitted his plans for the project on February 13, a little over a month after the city approved a 42-story tower on Leon Avenue, and another proposal headed for City Hall for a 46-story building on nearby Bertram Street. Also nearby would be the Bernard Block Towers.

The building with 353 residential units would stand on a raised parking platform and offer space for 346 cars and 246 bicycles. The houses would consist largely of one-bedroom suites and one studio, plus 116 two-bedroom units and only four three-bedroom units.

Before it can be built, the city would have to both re-divide the land and account for a significant height variance.

Kerkhoff is the developer of what is currently the tallest building in the city, One Water Street.
