Another Kelowna company had to temporarily close its doors after one of its employees tested positive for COVID-19.

Sebastiaan Pynappels, owner of Kelowna Cell Repair on Bernard Ave., said one of his employees informed him of the test results on Thursday.

According to Pynappels, management has contacted anyone who may have come into contact with the employee who was working a shift from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 19

Pynappels says they took immediate action and temporarily closed it so the store can undergo a major clean. He expects to open again after cleaning is complete.

“We wanted to be open about this and take the health and safety of our employees and customers very seriously.”

Pynappels also believes the risk of exposure for customers is very low, as a precautionary measure he installed plexiglass at the start of the pandemic and no other staff came in contact with the person who tested positive.

They have taken extra precautions in addition to the steps they would normally take with cell phones.

“We know cell phones are dirty, so we’ve always taken extra care when cleaning them. However, since that pandemic, we’ve implemented additional cleaning procedures in-house and added protocols to keep our employees safe.”

Pynappels says he will continue to follow internal health safety guidelines and “we apologize for any inconvenience.”
