The West Kelowna Fire Department calls upon residents of the city of West Kelowna and the West Bank First Nation to take FireSmart measures to better protect their families and homes in the event of wildfire.
FireSmart homes and neighborhoods allow firefighters to focus on fighting the wildfire, which ultimately saves more homes and lives.
West Kelowna and West Bank First Nation residents can apply for grants of up to $ 500 per property for the eligible work they perform.
The FireSmart program steps are:
Download, print, and fill out a free, self-paced assessment at westkelownacity.ca/firesmart
Take photos beforehand, do the legitimate FireSmart work, and then take photos afterwards
Complete your grant application, including photos and receipts, and submit it to West Kelowna Fire Rescue at [email protected] or call 778-797-3200 for assistance
Thanks to funding from the BC government, 100 scholarships are available this year, compared to 50 in 2020 and 20 in the first year of the program in 2019.
Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

- Keeping the needles raking, removing bark from the house, keeping the grass cut to less than four inches, and pruning or removing hedges, shrubs and trees from your house
