Okanagan Water Middle Down For Repairs – Kelowna Capital Information

Vernon Aquatic Center is temporarily closed for repairs due to an unexpected water leak in its mechanical room. The leak occurred during maintenance by a contractor on Monday, February 15th.

As a result of the leak, pool water entered the electrical components that control the main circulation pumps for the two pools and the hot tub. Once the leak was identified, all system components were shut down, dried and cleaned to prevent further damage.

“All swimming programs and swimming reservations for today have been canceled and future swimming reservations are not currently being accepted,” said Gary Lefebvre, water sports manager. “We know how excited our community members were to be back in the pool. That’s why we’re working hard to get back up and running as quickly as possible.”

The lap pool system was tested and could be restarted on Tuesday. However, components for the recreational pool and hot tub systems have been damaged and must be replaced. Parts have been ordered from the US and repairs will be made as soon as the parts arrive. Until then, the leisure pool and whirlpool will remain closed to the public.

“Our maintenance team is investigating how the leak occurred and will take steps to ensure that such incidents can be prevented in the future,” said Lefebvre. “We have received assurances that the contractor will take full responsibility for the damage and that the systems will be replaced free of charge for the City of Vernon.”

Recreation Services apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates everyone’s understanding.
