Adults looking to return to education can confidently take the next steps thanks to an upcoming virtual seminar from Okanagan College.
On March 31, senior students in North Okanagan and Shuswap looking to change careers or return to school can discover programs, funding opportunities, and the support network available to them as they transition.
The “Returning to Education” seminar supports adults in deciding whether retraining or further training is right for them.
“Going back to class may be a big step for people who have not been in the classroom for a while. After overcoming this initial hesitation, our students often find that they are more successful in school than they ever imagined, ”says Natasha Befus, Head of Adult Education.
“Adult upgrade teachers are taking additional steps to support adult learners. Many of our students graduate from Okanagan College, which takes their lives in a whole new way, ”she adds.
The hour-long interactive session provides attendees with information about the opportunities offered by the Okanagan College program, including options for transitioning universities, professions and education, postgraduate studies, and adult education.
There will also be an opportunity to meet team members from Okanagan College who are committed to helping students succeed with services such as course planning and indigenous cultural support.
WorkBC and OC Student, Graduate and Co-op Employment representatives will discuss employment opportunities and services to help graduates re-enter the world of work. At the end of the session, the participants will receive contact information for their local WorkBC center.
The seminar takes place as part of a wider range of informational events called Experience OC. The series of online workshops is designed to give students the chance to experience what it is like to be an Okanagan college student for a day. Various sessions will take place every week until the end of May. Prospective students can take part in lectures and interactive presentations, meet lecturers, and ask program and job-related questions.
The Returning to Education Seminar will take place on Wednesday, March 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sign up here.
